How do you set the image size with a Sony Cybershot dsc-s700?
I just bought this camera but can’t figure out where you set the image size inside the camera. My last cybershot did this so you didnt have to resize the pictures once you put them on your computer.
In “Record” mode (when you see what the camera is looking at on the screen), push the little button which also serves as “Trash” in replay mode and you can select any picture size. In addition, Sonys have a unique “Trimming” program, which allows you to copy the pictures you have already made and make then ANY size you want when they are cropped or copied. In the “Replay” mode, you can keep the picture with the same framing by going to “Menu” when you see the picture you want on the screen, and then scroll across the icons on the bottom until you get to “Copy”, which will bring up a selection on all the sizes. You can “Copy”, smaller OR larger (!) when you select “OK” with the center button in the middle of the four-way. This saves the original and makes a copy at the new selected size which you’ll find last on the memory.
Or, unique to Sony, in “Replay” you can use the zoom function and the four way arrows to crop to any part of the picture and copy AT ANY RESOLUTION. Press “Menu” after zooming in to the part of the image you want to copy, and the “Trimming” prompt appears on the screen. Select with the “OK” button, and you will once again have the choice of copying at ANY resolution, by way of an exclusive internal interpolative progam. Nice! Of couse “transformed” pictures won’t be perfectly equal to high-res. But having this feature available can sure help if you want to do lots of things and don’t have huge available memory space, or you just want to shoot things for fun and find something afterwards that you want to print larger than you thought you would.
Don’t miss, also, very comprehensive video editing, and “VGA” movies (smallest resolution) that will make pixellated little sound-and-video clips. You’ll see the image looks small in playback when you’ve selected this mode. Why bother with such comparatively poor movies when you can make better, sharper one at higher resolution? Because at lowest resolution, you can actually make videos of 30 seconds or even one minute, with sound, that WILL ACTUALLY FIT INTO EMAILS!!!!
You were very smart to get a Sony — or lucky. But you know the old saying about which is better! In my opinion as a professional, you’ll find with a little practice and studying of the manual with the camera in your hands, that Sony is by far the most versatile for everyday use of all the brands on the market. Believe me, I’ve tried most of them and the Sony (an even-cheaper DSC S-600!) is my standby take-with camera, despite owning several others which I use for specific purposes. Have a great time!
