Extender Canon
What would be better? An EF 28-300mm lens or a 70-200mm lens with a 1.4x extender?
I need to take long range shots from a baseball dugout to as far as the center fielder.
What would be the better scenario?
Both would be a USM IS lens.
I’m excited for my purchase, but I would like a professional opinion.

I have a Canon Eos xti Rebel. I know I know…. but it was a gift. I’m pretty sure both lens will work with this camera right?
I want the 70-200mm to be a 2.8L.
Still need to do some research on the 28-300mm.
I am also interested in the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS Usm Lens. Everything I read about it indivates that its a top notch lens, no doubt about it. I was reading one review in particular where they discuss some of the finer points of this lens and the use of an Extension Tube such as the .14x. And it says “The maximum magnification at 200mm is actually less when extension tubes are used (.06x and .14x) than when they are not present. Native maximum magnification is achieved at 200mm.” Just thought that may be interesting for you to read. No big deal, but just a tidbit of trivia!!!

I’m no expert on these things, but I sort of feel like the 28-300 may be a litle too much lens for your particular requirements. Just my inexperienced opinion, LOL! Take it for what its worth…
BTW, have you considered the 70-200mm f/4.0 lens? I believe it is about $500 cheaper!
