Will a Canon EF 180mm Macro L lens work OK on a Rebel T2i?
The Rebel T2i has a 1.6x crop factor so it would effectively be a 288mm lens which might be OK as I would be using it to photograph insects, etc. I figure it would work but I want to double check. If not I plan on using it on other Canon bodies including EOS Film Cameras – that is, if I get it – its not mine yet. I know where there’s a “minty” one for about $500 off regular price and am hoping to make it mine so I can have a primo Macro Lens.
Just so you all know – I am a little nuts about cameras – I’d be putting this on a full-frame later or a 35mm like an EOS-1v. The T2i is actually primarily for video – but the thought of saving $500 on this lens appeals to me as I’m sure you can understand!
It will work, but you will probably require a bigger than normal working distance. Great for not disturbing the subject, more of a pain for foreground clutter and actually framing your shot.
If you want a lens that behaves like the EF180L then the EF Macro 100mm USM II will give you an effective 160mm on an APS-C body. More natural working distance and vastly cheaper.
