Are there more serious side effects from Cortizone shots other than steroid flare?
After receiving a cortizone shot in my ankle joint, my whole leg is swollen, purple and extremely painful to even the lightest touch. I cannot even move my leg or I experience horrible pain. I know there is a possibility of flare, but no description of flare talks about the area turning purple and cold, or swelling.
I have even had injections of cortizone in my spine before and not experienced any difficulty like this. I feel like the spine would be much more vulnerable to side-effects than an ankle.

I am very concerned about what you are describing. Cortisone reduces inflammation (swelling). You are saying that your whole leg is swollen, purple and extremely painful.
Please go to the ER immediately. This is not a side effect of cortisone. It sounds like an unrelated condition. It is serious. Please act immediately.
